New Plumbing Rules Statewide As of December 1, 2007 new legislation has been implemented in the plumbing industry. The Department of Labor and Industry has information available to help with questions or confusion that may be occurring.
Click for information and links from DOLI Article on Volunteer Inspectors in SE Minnesota Flooding: In a recent article in the St. Paul Legal Ledger, their sister publication Finance and Commerce interviewed Don Munson regarding the Volunteer Building Inspectors activity in flood ravaged SE Minnesota. This newspaper is heavily read by legislators and legislative staff, especially during session. There were pictures of a flood damaged home in Stockton and of Don Munson. It credits the volunteers for examining over 900 structures in a four day stretch. Don credits both the Construction Codes and Licensing Division and the Association of Minnesota Building Officials volunteers for the effort. The City Administrator of Rushford is quoted as saying how helpful the inspection teams were to his city and the residents and helped begin the healing process. Thank you once again to all volunteers and CCLD with their invaluable assistance and efforts to the flood victims.

Paul Heimkes Update From SE Minnesota: Paul Heimkes recently sent out an email for an update on the flooding the occurred in southeastern Minnesota. AMBO would like to thank Paul for his information of inspection activities after the flood. His report shows the importance of our profession in these efforts to help in times of disaster. Region III Contracts With Northland Inn Through 2015: Upper Great Plains Region III planning member Roger Axel announced that the Institute has committed it's promise to provide quality education for the building code professions by signing an agreement with Northland Inn through the year 2015. By signing the contract, the hotel recognizes that the Regional Institute is an important part of their scheduling for years to come. This year, the Institute continued to grow and meet and exceed growth expectations. The future of the Institute is bright and looks forward to its continued residence at Northland Inn.
Tom Joachim Receives 2006 Al Kleinbeck Award AMBO presented the 2006 Al Kleinbeck award to Assistant Commissioner Tom Joachim at the summer semi-annual membership meeting at Craguns Resort. Each year the Association recognizes a Minnesota code official whose work and accomplishments exemplify a willingness to contribute beyond the job requirements and enhance the application of the profession through education, code development, or professional development. These efforts translate into improved public safety in the built environment. Tom is a model for this description and a well deserved recipient of the Al Kleinbeck Inspector of the Year Award. Congratulations, Tom!
Semi-Annual Membership Meeting: Ambo held the Semi-Annual Membership Meeting July 20 at Cragun's Resort. Over 50 people attended the meeting and were updated on committee activities, educational planning and legislative information. The chapter lobbyist provided a summary of legislations that impacted the code environment the past season, and what to expect in sessions to come. Also present was ICC Secretary Adolph Zubia. It was a privilege to have Mr. Zubia in attendance. Mr. Zubia updated members on ICC events, goals and continued support of local and state chapters. A special thanks to Adolph and Patty , ICC Regional Support for their attendance and support of the chapters. AMBO Represented in Washington DC During National Building Safety Week: AMBO Executive Officer Roger Axel attended ICC Building Safety Week events in Washington. Roger was able to attend and help advocate the National Code Administration Grant Program. The Building Safety Week events in Washington D.C. also provided the opportunity for several Building Officials to participate in Capitol Hill Day activities. The Capitol Hill meetings provided an insight to an additional communication method the ICC provides for input in the national political arena.
